FAQs

1. What is the Occupational English Test (OET)?

OET is an English language test that assesses the language and communication skills of healthcare professionals who seek to register and practice in an English-speaking environment.

OET is recognized and trusted by healthcare boards and councils in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Namibia, Singapore, and Ukraine, among others.

OET covers all four language skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) with an emphasis on communication in a healthcare environment.

OET provides a valid and reliable assessment of all four language skills – listening, reading, writing, and speaking – with an emphasis on communication in healthcare professional settings. Each skill is scored from 0 to 500 in 10-point increments.

OET results are usually published 16 business days after the test.

There is no limit to the number of times you can take the test. However, it is recommended to take some additional study and preparation before re-taking the test.

The test includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking tasks that are based on common healthcare scenarios.

OET is designed specifically for healthcare professionals. The test uses real healthcare scenarios which means you’ll be familiar with the types of tasks and topics you’re tested on.

OET test scores are usually considered valid for two years by most recognizing organizations.

There are several resources available to help you prepare, including official OET preparation materials, preparation courses like those offered by Sekhris, and textbooks.
